Entry, Total Consecration and the Profession

"Every day is a new day and all creation is renewed in the person of Jesus Christ."

After two weeks of our stay in Sneha Bhavan community that lead us to the preparatory retreat with Fr. Joji smm, we the 12 pre-novices made our entry into the Novitiate during the Morning Prayer on 30th May 2017. The ceremony was presided over by our beloved provincial Rev. Fr. Michael Sagayaraj and we are very happy to enter the very womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Fr. Johnson smm celebrated the Holy Eucharist that followed immediately after our entry proper and prayed on our behalf.

In the same evening the out-going novices made their Total Consecration (TOTUS TUUS) at 6.30 pm with SMM traditional ceremony that contains three stages: It began at the main entrance of Novitiate house by paying homage to the Holy Bible. Novices while kneeling and kissed the Holy Scripture and followed by Bible procession going up to the Chapel singing songs. Before entering into the chapel, the novices renewed their baptismal promises with a lighted candle while keeping their right hand in the Baptismal pond. For the third part we got into the chapel carrying the Easter candle in procession singing alleluia and made their Consecration before the Wisdom statue that was prepared before the altar. Their cassocks and chords were blessed and given to them to use it for the following day. We were truly touched by witnessing the Montfortian tradition.

31st May, on the Feast of Visitation, morning at 9.30, we all witnessed a lovely rite of blessing of our newly built Marian Grotto in the presence of many. Our 9 novices made their First Religious Profession during the Eucharistic celebration presided by Rev. Fr. Michael Sahayaraj, our Provincial. Our young conferrer Fr. Napoleon who came all the way from Belgium, delivered his well prepared homily highlighting the importance of Religious Vows and its implications. There were many clergy men present from the Diocese, SMM and many religious women from different Congregations. Some of our family friends also present for the profession. Hence, they became temporarily members of the SMM family. We were extremely happy to welcome them.

I am very glad to participate in the celebrations, praying for each of them and their families while wishing them more inspirations and perseverance in the future. I am truly inspired and excited to be part of these celebrations in our novitiate here in Kanathi, all the more we began feeling the warmth of being knit in the womb of the Blessed Mother.

For the Sneha Bhavan, Novitiate Community,
